Producers Love Filming in Florida

Every year the film industry in Florida grows larger and larger. Filming in Florida has become increasingly popular among producers from all over the United States. So, why is it that these entertainment gurus love bringing their film projects to Florida?

The Sunshine State

One of the main reasons that producers love filming in Florida is because of the weather. Florida is known for its sun-filled days and warm temperatures. Known as the Sunshine State, Florida features beautiful clear skies, tropical seascapes, and, as always, plenty of sunshine.  In Florida, the average temperature is 82 degrees Fahrenheit. The Metro Orlando film and television community has flourished into a nationally recognized location destination. This is primarily due to the gorgeous weather, which affords the opportunity for producers to film all year round.

Diverse Terrain

Aside from warm, sunny weather, another high point to filming in Florida is the diverse terrain. Florida features some of the most beautiful landscapes within the United States. Busy city streets, quiet suburbs, winding roads leading to rural farm towns, well manicured golf courses and a variety of theme parks provide the backdrop for endless filming possibilities. That isn't all Florida has to offer. Did you know that the landscape around the Metro Orlando area is so diverse that six of the Earth's seven continents can be fully replicated? Giant, clear blue bodies of water, rolling hills, pastures stretching as far as the eye can see, thick swamps and steamy jungles all set the stage for globe trotting whirlwind adventures. Filming in Florida allows producers to share sights and images from around the world all without leaving the state.

State-of-the-Art Soundstages

The Metro Orlando area has some of the best soundstage facilities in the United States. At the fingertips of producers filming in Florida are the skilled crews, specialized service companies, and state-of-the-art soundstages. Ranging in size from 8,300 to 22,000 square feet, Orlando’s soundstages feature state-of-the-art sound control, innovative trolley beams and silent air for continuous shooting – providing total flexibility for your next production. There are more than 383 businesses in the region that are engaged in the entertainment production industry. With so many business locations, producers are sure to find exactly what they need to make their project a success.

Incentives

Florida's Film and Entertainment Incentive went into effect on July 1, 2010. This new incentive program allows producers who are filming in Florida to receive between 20 percent and 30 percent in tax credits for their qualified expenditures. The new entertainment industry tax credit program totals $242 million dollars over the course of five years. Any production company wishing to receive tax credit must apply for a certificate of exemption within 180 days of their first day filming in Florida.
